“Drug/Herb/Nutrient Interactions”

Pam Tarlow, PharmD

Dietary supplements (including herbal medicines) were a $71 Billion market worldwide in 2017, of which $7 Billion was the US market. Pharmacists and other healthcare professionals need to know the place of herbal medicines in therapy and consider clinically important herb-drug interactions. Accurate information on St. John’s wort, ginseng, garlic, goldenseal and other botanicals will be discussed, including clinical situations (cases) where the pharmacist, nurse, physician, and acupuncturist need to apply the information to improve patient care.

Dr. Pam Tarlow has been a practicing pharmacist since 1981. Her practice has evolved over the years to include working closely with providers and patients on the safe, appropriate, and effective use of pharmaceuticals, botanicals, homeopathics and nutritional agents. She currently practices clinical integrative pharmacy at a unique independent pharmacy and as part the team at an Integrative Medical Health Group. Dr. Tarlow has become an expert in integrative pharmacy services. She is a lecturer and an innovative experiential educator for many pharmacy schools and doctorate acupuncture programs.
